Your preference list is not a wishlist. It is an instruction.

Allotment considers rank, category, eligibility, available seats and the submitted NLU preference order under the applicable counselling rules. A candidate should not casually place a less-preferred institution above one they would genuinely choose. The highest available preference for which the candidate qualifies may determine the allotment.

Candidates must read the current year’s official counselling instructions because invitation rules, freeze, float and exit options, and deadlines may change.

When two institutions are comparably placed, culture matters more than students sometimes expect. Academic intensity, dominant career paths, location, opportunities and the ambitions surrounding you can shape not only what you do in law school, but what you gradually begin to understand as “doing well.” This does not mean your environment determines your future. It does mean that choosing an institution is also choosing the environment in which many of your still-forming ambitions will develop.
